A little bit about me

A little bit about me

Annette Monge, Canine Behavior Consultant

I was 19 years old when I first started training dogs. I owned a dog that had several behavioral problems, and I needed to either solve the problems, or  rehome her. I took her to an obedience class, and thus began my career in dog training. It has been a lifelong passion. Donald Trump always says "Do what you love to do.". so, here I am.

In 2001, at the prompting of a good friend, I decided to go professional. In doing that, I became a member of APDT (Association of Pet Dog Trainers). Through APDT, I have traveled to Colorado and Florida for conventions where I personally met and studied some of the techniques of leaders in the field. Great trainers like Bob Bailey, Turid Rugaas, Trish King, Karen Pryor, and Terry Ryan are amongst those I have been privileged to be introduced to. I also visited Stockholm, Sweden to observe European dog training techniques and visited Paws With a Cause in Grand Rapids, Michigan to get an insight on the training of the valuable service dog. I look forward to attending more seminars and workshops, with at least one in the plans for every year.

From 1995 to 2005, I owned and operated a daycare facility from my home. I consider interactions between children and dogs one of my specialties, and encourage children 10 years and older to attend classes with their parents if they are interested. I have had several child-dog partners in the past classes, and it has always been great fun for all.

Starting in February of 2004, and ending in July of 2005, I worked for PETCO in both the Peoria and Bloomington locations as their Canine Education Instructor. It was a great experience for me, one I thoroughly enjoyed. It was through my employment there that I became an AKC accredited CGC (Canine Good Citizenship) evaluator. I resigned my position there to take another position teaching for Washington Park District. I have taken a hiatus from training in Washington due to the growing popularity of my own business in Roanoke.

I graduated from  ICC  in 2007, completing the  Interpretation Preparation Program. I am a licensed deaf interpreter in the state of Illinois.  I am also a certified educational interpreter.  I welcome all deaf and hard of hearing students!

Hope to see you in a future class,
